Gauntlet Makes A Comeback: Warrior Needs Food Badly!

May 28, 2008

warrior_lead Gauntlet Makes A Comeback: Warrior Needs Food Badly!Gauntlet rises from the ashes once again, this time for the DS platform, when it hits shelves in late June. We got a hands on preview and took the Warrior for a spin. It won’t disappoint fans of the arcade game, except possibly the screen size and playing the Wizard character with the express purpose of throwing elbows at the douchebags who play as the Elf.

The game still supports four-player co-op through local or Wi-Fi. But Eidos threw in a few new wrinkles with power moves for each character and online options like Death Match, Team Death Match and even voice-over-IP capability. You can still talk shit or reminisce about the days when Gauntlet first debuted in arcades/commiserate over shared fears of approaching middle age.

Grace Park Doesn’t Know A Damn Thing About Robots, And It Doesn’t Matter

May 28, 2008

Not that we think a lack of robot knowledge is a problem. You could possibly debate whether or not Grace Park is America’s sexiest Cylon. Tricia Helfer is in the running, but the whole marriage thing is an added obstacle. We already have beauty, fame, and most probably a high tech home security system to overcome. Why add matrimony? Check out the video of her taking a quiz on the ‘bots of pop culture. She doesn’t exactly score many points, at least until she makes the guy doing the interview do the robot.

Interview: Cliff Bleszinski, Epic Design Director, Talks Some Gears 2

May 28, 2008

cliff_dice2008 Interview: Cliff Bleszinski, Epic Design Director, Talks Some Gears 2Cliff Bleszinski is under a little pressure at the moment, actually a “fuck load” in his own words. Not only is he keeping an eye on porting Unreal Tournament 3 over to the Xbox 360, he’s also spearheading Gears of War 2 for a November release. In our last interview with Cliff, ensconced between a pair of Penthouse Pets at GDC, he admitted that the last sequel in any series is the one that fails to make money. If the demo of the second level of Gears 2 is any indication, Epic should start mapping out the third installment.

We sat down with the Bleszinski to talk redneck survivalists, chainsaws and using another living being as cover from incoming gunfire – you know, the hairy, nasty heart beating in the chest cavity of the Gears sequel. Check the full interview after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

clank1 Get Your Latest, Piping Hot, Pre-Order Game Schwag
Now that the developers are putting the final touches on Secret Agent Clank they can focus on more important matters like marketing. Say hello to the latest incentive to pre-order a game from GameStop, the Clank figurine. It appears to have no kung-fu grip and it’s certainly not a BMW 3 Series or a bitchin’ ‘Stang. But what do you expect? This is just a PSP game.

Mötley Crüe Single Selling Better When Listeners Can Factor In Irony

May 27, 2008

motley-crue-sp01 Mötley Crüe Single Selling Better When Listeners Can Factor In IronyAccording to Reuters, Mötley Crüe’s single “Saints of Los Angeles” is selling better as a Rock Band download than the run-of-the-mill iPod variety at a clip of five to one. What a fucking shocker! We can’t believe no one wants to add “Saints” to their playlist favorites when they can try and play it on Rock Band and take turns trying to look deader than Mick Mars while still playing lead guitar. And yes, “deader” is a word… starting now.

Art Student Offers Thoughtful, Introspective Discourse On Video Game T & A

May 27, 2008

lara-croft-lead Art Student Offers Thoughtful, Introspective Discourse On Video Game T & ADaniel Floyd, a grad student at Savannah School of Art and design used a school assignment to describe the current status of sex in video games. Floyd rambles a bit (and lacks Yahtzee’s bile even though he borrows his style), but he makes some good arguments for pushing the envelope. He does a good job of spreading the blame around for the current state of sex in games between American hypocrisy and game developers playing into stereotypes. We don’t know if Nintendo deserves a specific shout for the lack of sex in current consoles. But hey, screw it, he said it, not us. Read the rest of this entry »
