An Inside Look At The Making Of Ghostbusters
June 19, 2008
During our preview of Ghostbusters with Sierra producer Ben Borth and Terminal Reality development director Brendan Goss we learned a few things about the upcoming game based on New York’s most famed paranormal specialists. For one thing, it’s not shaping up as the typical licensed dreck. And second, people still call William Atherton “dickless” to his face.
According to Borth and Goss the entire original cast from Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray to Annie Potts and the aforementioned man unfortunate enough to get typecast as a megadouche contributed to the game. Well, they got everyone except for Rick Moranis, “He made so much money off of Honey I Shrunk The Kids that he retired. He just doesn’t want to work anymore,” said Borth.
During the creation of the game the developers seem to have picked up some good trivia from the cast. “William Atherton, the guy who played Walter Peck in the movie, still runs into fans that quote the original movie,” said Borth, “He told us a story about a guy on a New York City tour bus pointing at him and yelling, ‘Hey everybody, look, it’s dickless.’” Borth also mentioned that Dan Aykroyd didn’t have to dig too deep to portray Dr. Raymond Stantz. “He’s just like his character in the movie. He doesn’t use computers because he thinks they are all tapped, he writes everything by hand… he kind of is Ray.”
Aykroyd also turned into one of the driving forces behind the game from inception right through development. After pitching the game to Sony over two years ago, the developers got a clip of the game play into Aykroyd’s hands and he took it from there, recruiting Harold Ramis and Murray and making the project a reality. Aykroyd went so far as to change names of weapons, “He changed things like the Proton Torpedo to the Boson Dart because he thought the original sounded too ‘Star Trek‘.”
As for the actual game, players will assume the role of a “fifth Ghostbuster” outfitted with an experimental Proton Pack that provides you with an array of weapons. It also means you’re the guinea pig of the group. If something goes wrong with the Slime Cannon or the Mason Collider prototype, you’re fucked. We got to see a level where the Ghostbusters take on a pissed off spirit manifesting itself as a golem made of books, the burning of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and the guys going after the librarian, the first ghost encountered in the original flick. All in all, the game is getting treated with what seems like a lot more care than your typical licensed title that’s got a good shot at becoming an entertaining play, with or without Rick Moranis.

In reality they likely didn’t offer Moranis as much money as he thought he deserved, either way I can’t wait for this game!

Where is Ernie Hudson? Wasn’t HE the fifth Ghostbuster?

A little grammar for the guy who plays too much video games he can’t write: it is spelled “console” not “council”. BIG DIFFERENCE!

Yeah no mention of Ernie Hudson or Sigorney Weaver. Rick you never turn your back on where you started. The Honey I Shrunk the Kids movies made a far amount of money but there is nothing wrong with going back to your roots. Hell you might get another big bank account out of it. The last movie Honey we Shrunk ourselves wasn’t that good C+ maybe.

winston (ernie hudson) was the 4th ghostbuster along w/ harold ramis (egon spangler), bill murray (peter venkman), and dan aykroid (ray stantz)

it’s meson collider, not mason collider. Though I imagine bricks would be an interesting weapon.

What the Sierra guy said about Moranis wasn’t very fair. True story is, Rick’s wife passed away a few years back so he quit acting because he decided to be a father instead of being an actor. You can’t blame him for being a good person. It’s a shame this rumor grows through the internet :-(
Ernie Hudson’s aboard!

This game looks cool. I heard about it on youtube and from my brother. And Just for someone who has info is there a possiblity for Ghosbusters 3 Hellbent?
By Chris on Jul 10, 2008
Ghostbusters the Video Game is actually Ghostbusters 3. There were rumors flying around years ago about a 3rd movie, but it was put off again and again and eventually, they all got too old and, well, for lack of a better word, rotund…
Gozer knows all.
Out.
