Tired of simply killing only German bipeds? Call of Duty World at War, which hit shelves this week, lets you take the fight to the humans and their dogs. (You can just make out two of the nippers saying their last whatever-the-German-word-for-woof in the above pic.) Take a look at some game video posted after the jump to get a flavor for the headshots that await. It does make me wonder whether or not Treyarch added the “ping” sound if you nail a German Shepherd between the eyes.

Das Reviews: Dragon Quest IV: Chapters Of The Chosen

dqiv Das Reviews: Dragon Quest IV: Chapters Of The Chosen
It wasn’t long after I fired up Square Enix’s Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen for the Nintendo DS, that I remembered why I loved RPGs so much. There are so many electronic quests, pixellated kingdoms alight with activity and destruction, monstrous displays of level grinding, sprawling, mystifying magical portholes into dimensions that our stupid brains won’t transport us to unless you’re one of the lucky few with something called imagination (or hard drugs). Yet, very few of these video game adventures ever provide a seriously entertaining experience that doesn’t dwindle after the first act. Enter Dragon Quest IV: The Chapters Of The Chosen.

Game Trailer | Martial Arts Capoeira

New Martial Arts: Capoeira Vid Features Tarantula vs Earthquake Styles, We Think

November 11, 2008

martialarts_capoeira New Martial Arts: Capoeira Vid Features Tarantula vs Earthquake Styles, We Think
Graffiti Entertainment released a new video for Martial Arts: Capoeira, their new fighting title for the Wii, PC, PS2, PSP and the DS. It’s billed as a match between Tarantula and Earthquake, which could very well just be the names of the characters but I really hope it’s their style of capoeira. Since their move sets look identical, it’s kind of tough to tell who wins. Hopefully the game will feature different capoeria systems (if they even exist), otherwise this is going to turn into the Eddy Gordo from Tekken show. As the motion capture for the game was performed by one capoeira school in Italy (of all places) the spice that is other types of ginga seems like a longshot. What’s the ginga you ask? Why that’s the rhythmic dance that is the foundation of all capoeira attacks. Goddamit, did you learn nothing from watching Band of the Hand?

Interviews | James Bond 007 Quantum of Solace

Das Interview: Quantum of Solace Producer Stuart Roch

November 10, 2008

quantum_of_solace_screenshot_07 Das Interview: Quantum of Solace Producer Stuart Roch
Most movie critics pissed on the selection of Daniel Craig before he debuted as the new James Bond. Now console jockeys get a chance to do the same thing to the video game version of Craig with the launch of James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace from Activision. Unlike other first-person shooters on the market, Quantum of Solace has two hurdles to overcome, a track record of sub-par Bond games and the same stigma any licensed game has to shoulder.

Craig silenced all the doubters with a performance that brought a new level of violent reality to what had become almost a fantasy role (Pierce Brosnan couldn’t pull off parkour much less choke a terrorist to death in a stairwell). But the new Bond can’t do any of the heavy lifting when it comes to silencing the video game critics. While Craig threw in a few tips regarding dialogue and gameplay, the guys at Treyarch and Activision have to bring the 007 gaming franchise back from licensed game hell. I caught up with Stuart Roch, executive producer of Quantum of Solace at Activision, to talk about the new title, Daniel Craig’s Guitar Hero habit and his plans to turn the franchise around.

EA Announces DLC Touch Ups For Dead Space

deadspace EA Announces DLC Touch Ups For Dead Space
Dead Space has been on shelves for less than a month and EA is already throwing some new DLC packs at gamers…for a price. Today EA announced 13 new content bundles (the number includes two exclusive content packs for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions). The upgrades include cosmetic fixes like flame jobs for main character Isaac Clarke’s armor as well as some heavier weapons. When it comes to the new and improved guns and blammo, it begs the question, why didn’t EA ship it with unlockable content instead of squeezing a couple of bucks out of their consumers a month later? Without any online modes to lord over other players or peacock the exclusive armor sets, the DLC content might be a hard sell. Even if it only costs two to four bucks. Check out the full line up of downloads after the jump.

Epic’s Rod Fergusson Explains What Makes Gears Of War 2 Casually Hardcore

geasrs_of_war_2_screenshot_chainsawtwofer Epics Rod Fergusson Explains What Makes Gears Of War 2 Casually Hardcore
While Cliff Bleszinski is the face of Epic Games and Gears of War 2 in the media Rod Fergusson, the game’s producer, is the man responsible for making sure Gears 2 makes it into your hands on time. A 10-year Microsoft games vet, Fergusson moved to Raleigh, NC three years ago to produce Gears of War 2 as an Epic employee. Fergusson took some time to talk with Das Gamer during Epic’s Gears 2 preview in San Francisco to talk about the new title, developing games as platforms instead of one off experiences and the fleshy objects standing in the way of user-generated content on the Xbox 360. Hit the jump for the full interview.
