Bethesda vice president Pete Hines, one of the honchos behind Fallout 3, took some time to talk about the role of sound in their new title. While gamers explore post-apocalyptic Washington DC they’ll here the familiar sounds from previous titles, “You’ll recognize all the original sound affects. There are a lot of iconic sounds that we wanted to bring to the table. Ron Perlman is the narrator, he was the narrator for the first two games so he’s the narrator again,” says Hines. Bethesda did more than simply preserve Fallout’s sonic source material. According to Hines, they upgraded in a few areas.

Games Critics Announce E3 2008 Winners

The judges behind the Games Critics Awards, a panel of more than 30 video game journalists headed up by Geoff Keighley and Rob Smith, have weighed in on their ballots. Bethesda’s Fallout 3 took top honors as best in show. EA walked away with five wins, the most of any publisher, and provides a nice symmetry to spending the most money of any company at the conference. In the PvPvP arena, Microsoft led with eight wins compared to seven trophies for Sony and one award for the Wii. While there was plenty of hype around the “heated” controversy on whether or not the Critics could include Activision on the ballots, why didn’t anyone at the GCA even mention Gamecock? Todd Holland, executive producer of Bethesda Softworks’ epic role-playing game, Fallout 3, knows that fans have been waiting a full decade for this game. He assures gamers that the wait for Fallout 4 won’t be that long, but this new game’s content should tide fans over for quite some time. Anyone who played Holland’s last game, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, knows that this developer crafts games that appeal to both the hardcore gamer and the more casual fans. They’ve taken the same approach with Fallout 3. Holland talks about what it’s like to blow up his hometown of Washington.
