Guitar Hero World Tour Ad Hopefully Signals End Of Brett Ratner’s Career
October 24, 2008
Activision tapped Brett Ratner to produce television spots hyping the release of Guitar Hero World Tour. (Fitting, seeing as Ratner already claimed he named the game.) The spot features Tony Hawk, Michael Phelps and Alex Rodriguez playing Guitar Hero instruments while Kobe Bryant lip syncs Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock And Roll” while they all imitate Tom Cruise in Risky Business. With so much to hate, it’s almost hard to find a place to start tearing this apart.
You’ve got five athletes imitating (poorly) a guy that would later go on to kidnap Katie Holmes in a movie from 1983 featuring a song that had relevance back when everyone still thought there was an outside chance that cigarettes contained vitamins. General points of relevance aside, it’s hard to understand how the commercial’s production got past Tony Hawk rolling out on a skateboard in his underwear, holding a drum kit before an intern took over. See the video for yourself posted below.
