Hands On With PixelJunk Eden
June 26, 2008![]()
Sony is working on some pretty Zen shit. At least that’s the feeling I left with from a hands on demo of Q-Games upcoming PSN title PixelJunk Eden. When I say “Zen shit” I mean that in the most positive way possible.
If you’re not familiar with Pixel, gamers play as a grimp, a little critter about the size of a pencil eraser on screen. The gameplay focuses around navigating a 2-D, neon-colored garden by jumping and swinging via your grimp’s short silk line. You create new flowers by releasing pollen and thus travel to new heights. By the way your silk has built in radar that points you in the right direction of the spectra pods you must collect to move up to the next level. I have no idea what they hell a spectra pod is, but you gotta get them. Throw in some trippy ambient music and voila, you’ve got yourself some Zen shit.
Sony will release Pixel sometime this summer. If you have even the slightest urge to step out of the world of shooters or sports games, give it a shot.
