Have The Crab Boat Shows Gone Too Far?

May 23, 2008

sniper-studios Have The Crab Boat Shows Gone Too Far?Sniper Studios released a new trailer for an unnamed Wii project. It’s clear however that the game involves a murder and…crab fishing. Isn’t this going a little far? The crab craze started with an article by some participatory journalist (we’ll just guess Sebastian Junger) going out to go fishing with the crab boats. Then came the requisite reality shows like Deadliest Catch and Rock of Love. Well, only one of those shows involve boats but we’re guessing they both feature crabs of some sort.

The final lesson stamped on America’s consciousness by crab-based media is that a small group of men endure terrible hardships and, in some cases, pay the ultimate price for the citizens of the earth to enjoy Snow Crab Leg night at Red Lobster. But do we really need a video game with any kind of plot points revolving around pulling water bugs out of the frigid waters? Considering the hype around Viva Pinata sequel, the answer is a resounding, “Why the hell not?” The game is set for the Wii. If it’s going the black and white route, it’s going to have a hard time going head to head with MadWorld.
