Obama PlayStation 3s and Nike Air Force Ones Favorites of NBA All-Stars
March 02, 2009PHOENIX, Arizona — Although President Barack Obama has said he’s a Wii Bowling fan, when it comes to the exclusive custom PlayStation 3s that Sony hands out to a select few at NBA All-Star Games and Super Bowls, he’s the man.
Gallagher Designs has partnered with Sony the past few years to create custom PS3s on-the-spot for some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment. This year in Phoenix at the 57th Annual NBA All-Star Game, a new Obama Hope PS3 was the talk of the town.
Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics), Thaddeus Young (Philadelphia 76ers), Daequan Cook (Miami Heat) and Roger Mason (San Antonio Spurs) were among the NBA elite who walked home with free Obama PS3s. The PS3s came pre-painted in a variety of colors (think custom automobile colors) and the etching process takes about 15 minutes.
Custom Obama Nike Air Force Ones were also all the rage. Sony hosted the NBA All-Star Players’ Lounge throughout the long weekend and sneakers, PS3s and PSPs were all for NBA greats past, present and future — some ballers sat down and played PS3 games like NBA 09: The Inside and Killzone 2 while they waited. Many of the shoes sported a “44″ on the side to honor the new President.
These custom kicks, PS3s and PSPs are all handcrafted with a laser etcher designed to engrave trophies. Instead, Gallagher Designs uses this technology to create one-of-a-kind game consoles and shoes. Players were able to e-mail the on-site reps their own designs and they were transferred via computer onto the sneakers or game systems.
While the process time varies, typical shoes like the skull pattern above take about 15 minutes. Obama takes a lot more work, especially for the toe design, as each shoe must be taped first before the etchings are lasered onto it. Nike kept fresh supplies of Air Force Ones in stock at Sony’s booth throughout the weekend.

Thank god that these millionaires now have hope. Finally, our NBA all stars can get the money they deserve, and some respect in this country. Maybe even some endorsement money.
