Sony Releases Bucket O’ Hardware With A Dash Of Outrage On The Side
August 20, 2008
If you recently bought the new $499 80GB PS3 before the announced $399 price drop (or the Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle like I did), prepare to get pretty pissed. Today at the Leipzig Games Convention Sony announced a new 180 gig version at the same price of $499 bundled with Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, an unintentionally ironic voucher for Pain and a complimentary bag of “What the fuck?” for the holidays. As MTV Multiplayer already pointed out, Sony stated that the 80 gig PS3 was going to be Sony’s mainstay for the near future. It’s not a direct correlation to Apple’s price gouge and subsequent drop for the iPhone in 2007. But it should inspire a similar amount of indignant rage from consumers who ponied up the extra dough.

Sony also pulled the wrapper off of their new handheld update, the PS3 3000 (’cause Pimpbot 5000 was already taken). Sony is upping the contrast revolution on the screen and adding a built-in mic for Skype calls. Yes, now you too can listen to children yelling at their friends on voip-speaker phone. Sony will bundle the new PSP with a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, a voucher to download Eckochrome, and unnamed “blockbuster film” on UMD and, just for shits, giggles and a double entendre, acopy of Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. But they will keep the price at a steady $199.

Finally, Sony will also roll out a wireless keypad so you gamers will not have to stoop so low as to actually yell homophobic, racist comments. Now they can simply use their thumbs to register disgust. The Bluetooth tech will also pair with any enabled device–handy if you want to update your cell phone address book. Sony didn’t mention a price but it will release in November.

That controller attachment looks AWFUL
The PSP bundle is nice though.
And big surprise on Sony reeming their customers when ti comes to hardware pricing. I’d be more surprised if they didn’t.
