Game Trailer | Call of Duty World At War

Put A Bullet In Some Nazis And Their Violent, Nazi Dogs

November 12, 2008

Tired of simply killing only German bipeds? Call of Duty World at War, which hit shelves this week, lets you take the fight to the humans and their dogs. (You can just make out two of the nippers saying their last whatever-the-German-word-for-woof in the above pic.) Take a look at some game video posted after the jump to get a flavor for the headshots that await. It does make me wonder whether or not Treyarch added the “ping” sound if you nail a German Shepherd between the eyes.

Das Interview: Quantum of Solace Producer Stuart Roch

November 10, 2008

quantum_of_solace_screenshot_07 Das Interview: Quantum of Solace Producer Stuart Roch
Most movie critics pissed on the selection of Daniel Craig before he debuted as the new James Bond. Now console jockeys get a chance to do the same thing to the video game version of Craig with the launch of James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace from Activision. Unlike other first-person shooters on the market, Quantum of Solace has two hurdles to overcome, a track record of sub-par Bond games and the same stigma any licensed game has to shoulder.

Craig silenced all the doubters with a performance that brought a new level of violent reality to what had become almost a fantasy role (Pierce Brosnan couldn’t pull off parkour much less choke a terrorist to death in a stairwell). But the new Bond can’t do any of the heavy lifting when it comes to silencing the video game critics. While Craig threw in a few tips regarding dialogue and gameplay, the guys at Treyarch and Activision have to bring the 007 gaming franchise back from licensed game hell. I caught up with Stuart Roch, executive producer of Quantum of Solace at Activision, to talk about the new title, Daniel Craig’s Guitar Hero habit and his plans to turn the franchise around.

Tool Guitarist Sheepishly Admits To Guitar Hero Thumb Blister, Invites Apocalypse

October 29, 2008

guitar_hero_world_tour Tool Guitarist Sheepishly Admits To Guitar Hero Thumb Blister, Invites Apocalypse
In the new launch trailer for Guitar Hero World Tour, Adam Jones the lead guitarist for Tool, admits to getting a thumb blister playing Guitar Hero World Tour. That’s a wrap, people. The four horseman of the apocalypse are saddling up. Hopefully one of them looks like Ted Nugent (pictured). Hit the jump to watch the trailer which also includes Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith (who could pass for Will Ferrell’s clone) stating that Guitar Hero has revitalized the music industry and Sting referring to how he never realized tantric tantric sex could get better until he engaged in the practice while performing Nugent’s “Stranglehold.” Well, only one of those statements is true.

Guitar Hero World Tour Ad Hopefully Signals End Of Brett Ratner’s Career

October 24, 2008

kobe_and_brett Guitar Hero World Tour Ad Hopefully Signals End Of Brett Ratners CareerActivision tapped Brett Ratner to produce television spots hyping the release of Guitar Hero World Tour. (Fitting, seeing as Ratner already claimed he named the game.) The spot features Tony Hawk, Michael Phelps and Alex Rodriguez playing Guitar Hero instruments while Kobe Bryant lip syncs Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock And Roll” while they all imitate Tom Cruise in Risky Business. With so much to hate, it’s almost hard to find a place to start tearing this apart.

Activision’s Bobby Kotick To Music Industry, “You’ll Get Nothing And Like It”

September 26, 2008

bobby_kotick_activision Activisions Bobby Kotick To Music Industry, Youll Get Nothing And Like ItIn an interview with the Wall Street Journal Activision CEO Bobby Kotick responded to the grumbling of Warner Music CEO Edgar Bronfman, Jr. due to the “paltry” royalties paid to the music publisher from Guitar Hero sales. In the article Kotick said, “When you look at the impact [Guitar Hero] can have on an Aerosmith, Van Halen or Metallica, it’s really significant. So much so that you sort of question whether or not, in the case of those kinds of products, you should be paying any money at all and whether it should be the reverse.” But if you read between the lines the message becomes much clearer. Tricia Helfer On Voicing Black Cat In Spider-Man Web Of Shadows

September 23, 2008

black_cat_helfer Tricia Helfer On Voicing Black Cat In Spider-Man Web Of Shadows
Canadian bombshell and video game acting veteran, Tricia Helfer, talks about relating to the character of Black Cat, who she voices in the new Spider-Man: Web of Shadows title. Towards the end of the video you can spot her reading off the cue cards to go to the game’s official site, SeizeControl.com, where she’ll reveal “Spidey as you’ve never seen him before.” Probably would have helped traffic a lot more if she had just said, “Head over to the site to see motion-capture footage of me wearing vinyl and giving Spidey the business.” Hit the jump to watch the full video.
