Das Review: Rock Band 2

September 24, 2008

rock_band_2 Das Review: Rock Band 2
Last year’s Harmonix-developed Rock Band stole the spotlight from Guitar Hero (though not in terms of sales) as the unofficial sequel to the GH series. With drums, a mic, and pretty awesome team play—as long as your apartment floor plan accommodated an arsenal of plastic instruments in the middle of your living room—what wasn’t to like? Jeremy Roenick Talks NHL 09 And “Making Gretzky’s Head Bleed”

September 22, 2008

jeremy_roenick_nhl09 Jeremy Roenick Talks NHL 09 And Making Gretzkys Head Bleed
Almost 39, Jeremy Roenick is entering his 21rst year in the NHL. And yet the best American-born player in NHL history (510 goals) is probably better known for his feats as a video game character than a hall of fame hockey player. After all, it was a virtual JR in Swingers that Vince Vaughn used to take out Gretzky during a game of NHL 94. Not a lot of hockey fans can rattle off Roenick’s career stats but just about every gamer who ever played as the Blackhawks in NHL 94 has used Vaughn’s quote from the movie, “It’s not so much me as it is Roenick. He’s that good,” after scoring a goal with Roenick.

Roenick went on to grace the cover of Sega Sports’ NHL 2K3 and ESPN NHL Hockey 2K4 games when he played for the Philadelphia Flyers. And this summer, he came in at number 4 for IGN’s “Top 10 Athletes in Videogame History.” JR was on hand at EA Sports’ Vancouver studio to check out NHL 09 first-hand and provide mo-cap for NHL 10. Check out what he had to say about his upcoming season (his second with the San Jose Sharks), his take on video games and “making Gretzky’s head bleed.” Read the rest of this entry »

EA honcho Peter Moore has been the featured subject for a five part interview series by Keith Stuart at the Guardian. In his final segment Moore goes into the shifting landscape of the games business, stating that EA will try to expand its brand into new areas like apparel and editorial content as well as the impending obsolescence of discs as delivery medium and interaction with consumers. EA Announces Ship Date For Mirror’s Edge

September 18, 2008

mirrors_edge EA Announces Ship Date For Mirrors Edge
The game that Parkour built, Mirror’s Edge, will hit shelves on November 11th for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. PC owners will have to wait until later in the winter and Wii owners…well, you’re shit out of luck. And yes, there will be a demo. In a weird swag move, EA is offering up a code to gamers that pre-order Mirror’s Edge that will unlock the Time Trial mode in the demo game.

Mirrror’s Edge has enjoyed a lot of buzz since E3 where it took “Best Original Game” honors. It also took down Best Xbox 360 Game at Leipzig. Not bad for a first person shooter that rewards you for never pulling a trigger.
