Legendary Lesson One: Don’t Go For The Axe

September 29, 2008

legendary Legendary Lesson One: Dont Go For The Axe
Don’t get suckered into playing a game of rock-axe-griffon, it generally ends poorly for everyone except for the mythical beast. At least that’s the way it would go if griffons really existed. But, for the sake of the argument, the critters are alive and well in Legendary. Hit the jump to watch the latest trailer for Gamecock’s first FPS title which hits shelves Oct 21. Just don’t expect a lot of help from NPC characters. Seeing as they use phrases like, “They’re establishing a beachhead on the rooftops, we can’t let them breach council headquarters,” you can pretty much predict they don’t know shit about small unit tactics. Legendary Shows Off Some Nasty Three-Way Action

July 09, 2008

legendary-screenshot Legendary Shows Off Some Nasty Three-Way Action
Gamecock recently announced that Legendary will hit shelves later this summer. Till then you can whet your appetite for bloody mythical mayhem with the latest trailer for the game which shows off some three-way battle footage between main character Charles Deckard, pissed off mythological beasts and a secret society bent on capturing said beasts and bending them to their will. If the footage (after the jump) of the werewolf beating a guy like a rented mule is any indication, that plan doesn’t seem to be working in the short term. Read the rest of this entry »

Legendary’s Creatures Will Make You Wish You Never Opened Pandora’s Box

July 01, 2008

legendarycreatures_main Legendarys Creatures Will Make You Wish You Never Opened Pandoras Box
Even with all the different horror survival games that have been released throughout the years, it’s not very often that we feel pangs of fear just from watching a game trailer. But the new video that introduces us to the killer creatures in the upcoming first-person shooter Legendary might have us sleeping with one eye open tonight.

The game puts you in the shoes of Charles Deckard, a thief who steals Pandora’s Box and accidentally unleashes an army of mythical beats upon New York City. You’re forced to do battle with everything from Werewolves to Minotaurs in your quest to save the planet from evil Armageddon. But the scariest part has to be their unpredictability—each creature has an Alpha and a Beta class and a variety of “moods” that can constantly change the method and intensity with which they will rip your head off. The game drops in September on Xbox and PS3, so hit the jump to preview its creatures and the weaponry that just might save your ass.

An Interview With Alex Seropian, The Man Behind The Chimp

June 30, 2008

Hail to the Chimp, the world’s first and only politically-themed, animal-based party brawler has hit shelves. The game allows players to choose between 11 animal candidates vying to become president. While the strong reviews have already begun to flow in, the very fact that the game has made it to market deserves a fair amount of respect. Not that the game’s creator, Alex Seropian or his company Wideload had to overcome massive odds or raise themselves up by the bootstraps. Seropian already did that nearly 20 years ago when he founded Bungie in a Chicago garage. Back then Bungie put out games like Gnop!, Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete, and then along came Halo, the game that literally created the Xbox market.

After shipping Halo, Seropian walked away from Bungie/Microsoft halfway through the development of the sequel. “When I came back to Chicago I wasn’t doing anything except starting a family, for about six months,” says Seropian. “I wasn’t sure I wanted to get back into this business because my passion is doing new original stuff and being independent.” But in 2003 Seropian founded Wideload, releasing Stubbs the Zombie two years later. Hail to the Chimp, the second title from Wideload, is the latest product of Seropian’s drive to create the games he wants to make while the industry moves onto the next sequel. Check out what Seropian had to say about the future of independent games, lucking out on the current election and his concept for the most expensive game of all time. Hit the jump for the full interview. Read the rest of this entry »

Gamecock’s Mike Wilson Running For ESA Prez

May 09, 2008

wilson-and-gallagher Gamecocks Mike Wilson Running For ESA Prez
Mike Wilson, one of the co-founders of Gamecock, has announced his candidacy for the top job at the Entertainment Software Association. If he follows through he will take on incumbent president Michael D. Gallagher. We couldn’t tell you whether the ESA presidency is up for vote this year, or is even decided by votes at all. But we did a little preliminary scouting on the possible match up. According to the ESA’s leadership page we know that Gallagher has held positions of Director National Telecommunications & Information Administration, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy & Counselor, and even CIA Intelligence Fellow. What we know of Wilson? The dude can drink a lot of beer and isn’t afraid to dress like a rooster, or any assortment of animals for that matter. Read the rest of this entry »
