EA has released another trailer to try and spook gamers into buying Dead Space. Hit the jump and watch the short video featuring executive producer Glen Schofield and a few members of his design team explain the lengths they went to in order to properly terrify their customers. They packed everything from space goth architecture and 1970s dentist office lighting to killing necromorph babies. Schofield gets quote of the video honors with, “They said to me, ‘Babies? You’re pushing it.’ And I just said, ‘Yeah, we’re pushing it.” Go get some, Glen! Read the rest of this entry »

In Dead Space, Gravity Is A Killer

September 10, 2008

deadspace In Dead Space, Gravity Is A KillerGlen Schofield, executive producer of Dead Space, talks about the research that went into the zero gravity gameplay in EA’s new horror/survival/sci-fi title. They probably didn’t consult the scene in Commando where Arnold kills Sully (pictured) and blames it on “graw-vee-tee.” They did figure out the weight of a human head, hand and the effects of zero-g on body parts. But, judging by the size of Schofield’s neck, I bet there’s a copy of Pumping Iron somewhere in his DVD collection. Check out the trailer after the jump. Dead Space hits shelves October 14. Glen Schofield Talks Dead Space, Probably Good At Arm Wrestling

August 11, 2008

glenschofield Glen Schofield Talks Dead Space, Probably Good At Arm WrestlingEric Bush over at PlanetXbox360 got some camera time with Dead Space executive producer Glen Schofield. In order to better wrap his head around the concept of the horror genre, Schofield sought out Wes Craven and Eli Roth to pick their brains. He admits that Craven had more of a philosophical definition of horror while Roth was more about straight up torture porn. Not so surprisingly, they’re already kicking around the idea of the sequel. I’m sure Schofield will get to it in between reps of preacher curls.

By now you’ve heard of EA’s play into the horror-survival genre–the one that doesn’t involve a hostile takeover bid of Take-Two. We’re talking about their upcoming title, Dead Space. Players will assume the role of Isaac Clarke, a space mechanic sent to a distant solar system to find a mining ship, the USG Ishimura, that’s gone missing. As we have already noted, space travel generally ends very poorly unless you’re William Shatner.

The guys at EA Los Angles, executive producer Glen Schofield in particular, have made effort to scare the shit out of you. We caught up with Schofield to talk about putting the fear into gamers, “strategic dismemberment” and his own neuroses. Hit the jump for the interview.
