Activision’s Bobby Kotick To Music Industry, “You’ll Get Nothing And Like It”

September 26, 2008

bobby_kotick_activision Activisions Bobby Kotick To Music Industry, Youll Get Nothing And Like ItIn an interview with the Wall Street Journal Activision CEO Bobby Kotick responded to the grumbling of Warner Music CEO Edgar Bronfman, Jr. due to the “paltry” royalties paid to the music publisher from Guitar Hero sales. In the article Kotick said, “When you look at the impact [Guitar Hero] can have on an Aerosmith, Van Halen or Metallica, it’s really significant. So much so that you sort of question whether or not, in the case of those kinds of products, you should be paying any money at all and whether it should be the reverse.” But if you read between the lines the message becomes much clearer. LEGOmation Guitar Hero Video Really Just An Intricate Call For Help

September 02, 2008

lego_guitar_hero LEGOmation Guitar Hero Video Really Just An Intricate Call For HelpIf any reader knows the identity of fuzzletopo7, the animator responsible for the Guitar Hero brought to you via LEGOs video (after the jump), you probably only have a few minutes till the poor bastard bleeds out.

Anyone who takes the amount of time required to record over four minutes of video using stop frame animation and a few colored blocks isn’t doing this for the love of a video game. They’re saying, “Please, the voices in my head are telling me to do the bad things.” Read the rest of this entry »

Sign Of The Apocalypse: Keytar Hero Possibly In The Works

August 28, 2008

keytar_hero Sign Of The Apocalypse: Keytar Hero Possibly In The WorksThink you’ve got enough shit in your house shaped like a musical instrument? Not yet my friend. According to a recent interview with Guitar Hero World Tour dev Brian Bright on Joystiq, they are already considering keyboard elements for a future title. “A keyboard controller deserves to be introduced with its own game,” said Bright, “This is something we’re thinking about.” Hopefully ActiBlizzard will take a more daring route than simply throwing out a shortie Casio board and go full on keytar.

Blackwater Mercs Working Out Logistics To Air Drop Guitar Hero To Troops

July 29, 2008

blackwater_aerosmith Blackwater Mercs Working Out Logistics To Air Drop Guitar Hero To TroopsThe private military contractor to end all private military contractors, Blackwater, is looking into ways to get Guitar Hero to the front. According to an AP report, Blackwater recruiter James Overton is working on an Xbox, modem, TV projector, and Guitar Hero game kit that can be kicked out of the back of a Blackwater cargo plane to the troops below.

“When I was in Baghdad, we’d bring soldiers over to our camp over there, and we’d play this thing for hours on end,” Overton said. “Every (military) place I’ve ever been to overseas, they’ve got like backgammon and Parcheesi and chess, and they’re all gathering dust. But this is the stuff they play at home. And any semblance of home we can give them is best.”

Not so strange that a Blackwater recruiter is working on ways to make American troops on the ground a little happier. I’m guessing that each game pack will come with a few brochures comparing paychecks from Uncle Sam and your friendly neighborhood mercenary outfit.

Break out the pleather pants and throw the horns like a middle-aged metalhead. Mötley Crüe announced a deal to release their new single, “Saints of Los Angeles” exclusively on Rock Band. Xbox 360 users can pick up the song on April 15th, PlayStation owners get their chance a few days later on April 17th. Not to be outdone, Def Leppard will release “Nine Lives,” a single from their new album, Songs from the Sparkle Lounge for Guitar Hero on April 24th. The real winner here? Brett Michaels. Nothing says “pop culture relevance” like a reality show based on relentlessly pulling the strings on a brood of psycho-cougars.
