G4TV’s Human Wrecking Balls Stick It To Some Consoles

November 12, 2008

What happens when 240-pound meatsticks Paul and Craig Pumphrey, who hold world titles in breaking concrete blocks, ply their trade using an Xbox 360, a PS3 and a Wii as their targets? The stuff blows up. While it’s a little more technical than the guys at Gamesradar using a sledge, there is at least some more bodily risk. I think you’ll find the “hammerfist” portion of the event when the guys start bashing the PS3 and Wii with their bare hands. It gets pretty technical when the bigger meatstick says, “You better hit that thing freakin’ hard,” to which the smaller meatstick replies,”Well…that’s the plan.” Indeed. You can catch more meatstick versus inanimate objects actions on G4TV’s new show Human Wrecking Balls, sponsored by Powerthirst and KFC’s as-yet unrevealed menu item, the Bucket of Southern Fried Awesome. Probably.

New iPhone Peripheral Defeats Central Purpose Of iPhone

November 06, 2008

marware_iphone_game_grip New iPhone Peripheral Defeats Central Purpose Of iPhone
Marware’s new Game Grip for the iPhone gives users a chunky pair of handles reminiscent of KITT’s steering wheel to make better use of the device’s accelerometer. Silicone grips wrap around an internal docking station that locks your iPhone in place and generally defeats the central concept of easy portability. Marware markets the peripheral as, “More than just some silicone sleeves and a holder. This is gaming with attitude!” They just should have stuck with, “For $50 bucks it’s a pretty cheap way to tell strangers you’re a dipshit without ever opening your mouth.” To Marware’s credit, they’re currently out of stock.

nintendo_dsi_hardware Nintendo DSi Upgrade Includes Web Browser, Ability To Horribly Mutate Your Cat
Nintendo prez Satoru Iwata pulled the veil off of the company’s latest handheld, the Nintendo DSi. As far as the framework goes it adheres to the smaller-bigger aesthetic applied to upgrades in consumer electronics and trophy wives. It’s got a skinnier waist but Nintendo managed to increase the size of the screens to 3.25 inches. The truly new bells and whistles include two built-in cameras, one on the exterior and the other popped into the hinge facing the user which opens up several new possibilities. September 12, 2008

psp_225 Sonys Shuhei Yoshida Points Stinkfinger At PSP Game Development EffortsIn an interview on IGN.com UK, Sony’s president of worldwide studios, Shuhei Yoshida, expressed his disappointment in the neglect to PSP game developers. He didn’t directly call out Sony as he seemed to direct his feelings towards third-party developers that have been slow to bring new titles to the platform. Sony Releases Bucket O’ Hardware With A Dash Of Outrage On The Side

August 20, 2008

sony180gb_ps3 Sony Releases Bucket O Hardware With A Dash Of Outrage On The Side
If you recently bought the new $499 80GB PS3 before the announced $399 price drop (or the Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle like I did), prepare to get pretty pissed. Today at the Leipzig Games Convention Sony announced a new 180 gig version at the same price of $499 bundled with Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, an unintentionally ironic voucher for Pain and a complimentary bag of “What the fuck?” for the holidays. As MTV Multiplayer already pointed out, Sony stated that the 80 gig PS3 was going to be Sony’s mainstay for the near future. It’s not a direct correlation to Apple’s price gouge and subsequent drop for the iPhone in 2007. But it should inspire a similar amount of indignant rage from consumers who ponied up the extra dough. August 18, 2008

retrospace Retro Space, A Level Up From Nolan Bushnells Original Game Cabinet
If you’re into retro gaming but find Donkey Kong vinyl wall coverings a little too juvenile, it’s time to check out the Retro Space. Dutch designer Martijn Koch has updated Atari founder Nolan Bushnell’s original game cabinet, the Computer Space, for the design savvy gamer. According to Koch’s personal manifesto this cabinet is a beautifully crafted, hi-def, yellow “screw you” to console gamers he collectively refers to as “Mr. Couch Potato” for bringing down the arcade business.
