New iPhone Peripheral Defeats Central Purpose Of iPhone

November 06, 2008

marware_iphone_game_grip New iPhone Peripheral Defeats Central Purpose Of iPhone
Marware’s new Game Grip for the iPhone gives users a chunky pair of handles reminiscent of KITT’s steering wheel to make better use of the device’s accelerometer. Silicone grips wrap around an internal docking station that locks your iPhone in place and generally defeats the central concept of easy portability. Marware markets the peripheral as, “More than just some silicone sleeves and a holder. This is gaming with attitude!” They just should have stuck with, “For $50 bucks it’s a pretty cheap way to tell strangers you’re a dipshit without ever opening your mouth.” To Marware’s credit, they’re currently out of stock.

New Gameboy Theme Blasts Your iPhone Into The 8-Bit Past

October 28, 2008

igameboy New Gameboy Theme Blasts Your iPhone Into The 8-Bit Past
Want to smash something beautiful? The new iGameboy springboard theme will take all the handsome icons on your iPhone and put them through the pixellated 8-bit visual blender that is the original Gameboy. It harkens back to a time when Tetris ruled the handheld gaming world and not one undergraduate college student in the nation had yet to reach the fetus stage of their development. So yeah. If you want to make all your apps look fuzzy, green and have a Tulane freshman ask you, “What the fuck is wrong with your iPhone?” next time you’re trying to pick up in New Orleans, this is for you.

dexter_iphone_screenshot_1-2 Marc Ecko Entertainment Announces Details For Dexter iPhone Game
Marc Ecko Entertainment kicked off the announcement of the new Dexter game for the Apple iPhone with a party at the Showtime House in New York City’s Gramercy Park. Complex cover girls Olivia Munn and Aubrey O’Day came out for the debut (pics after the jump) as well as former Dexter cast member Erik King (Sgt. James Doakes ). At the party flat screens displayed a few environment shots, the first an only images from the game so far. But Marc Fernandez, VP of Marc Ecko Entertainment, shared a few details in an interview today saying, “We’ve begun full development and are looking to release in February 09. Right now the plan for the game is to release solely on the iPhone but we’re interested in looking at other platforms. As with any game, expanding across platforms is a business decision. Right now we’re dedicated to making Dexter the premiere gaming title for the iPhone.”

When asked about the details of cast members who could contribute to the game Fernandez said, “The gameplay will focus around the first season of Dexter. Right now we don’t have any announcements but we are in talks with members of the actual cast.” Hit the jump for the video from Showtime’s Comic Con event. Michael C. Hall seems to have a theory as to what should go in the game.

dexter Marc Ecko To Deliver Dexter Game As An iPhone Exclusive
Today Marc Ecko officially announced the iPhone and iPod Touch as the platforms to host the Dexter game currently in development. Ecko dropped the news of his partnership with Showtime back in March. Today at Comic-Con Ecko revealed that the games will come in the form of episodic content rather than a single download and incorporate the Apple touchscreen, motion-based controls and phone calls. No real details on the gameplay have been released. But hopefully players will get a chance to kill off Dexter’s sister. What? It’s a game about sociopaths. Don’t judge.

iPhone Versus PSP Versus DS Thunderdome Deathmatch Off To Rocky Start

July 11, 2008

appleplusbullet iPhone Versus PSP Versus DS Thunderdome Deathmatch Off To Rocky Start
Reports are trickling in of iPhones getting bricked by failed firmware updates and the subsequent crash of Apple’s servers. Despite the hiccups (I guess rendering the intended hardware useless makes hiccup a bit of an understatement), Steve Jobs’ crew has something to crow about with the reported 160+ games they have waiting in the wings. As long as no one who bought the iPhone for $500 last year can get over the precipitous price drop. And everyone can leg go of their initial anger of getting placed on hold for a couple hours waiting for tech support. Yep, once they get those old servers up they’ll uh, they’ll sure have something to crow about in Cupertino. Um, ka-kaw? Stay tuned for our next installment of Games Without Boxes and we’ll take some promising titles for a test drive. The ones we can find anyway.
