Chinese Gamer Sues Shanda Entertainment Over Loss Of Virtual Schwag
May 22, 2008
China has come a long way since the Cultural Revolution. Back in the 1960s the Red Guard would crack you in the skull on the way back to the farm if they detected any hints of intellectualism. Now you can sue an MMO operator to defend your geekdom. A gamer identified as Wen has filed a $14,000 suit against Shanda Entertainment, the operator of Legend of Mir II over the disappearance of 31 virtual items from his character’s inventory. Wen claims that during the time he has played Legend he has thrown down around $30K on in-game trinkets–thirty fucking grand. No matter what happens in the law suit, it’s pretty clear that little Wen has some bigger issues looming in his future.
