Gears Of War 2 Makes A Cameo Appearance In Entourage

October 27, 2008

During last night’s episode of Entourage an extra walked into the frame behind and to the left of Kevin Connolly (Eric Murphy) and Kevin Dillon (Johnny Drama) wearing a Gears of War T-shirt (hit the jump to view the larger pic). With the extra walking in and out of the picture in two seconds, the shirt doesn’t get as much screen time as the average Budweiser bottle gets per episode. But, given the coming release date and Microsoft’s influencer program that put out the limited edition GTA IV Xbox and threw a party for Gears of War 2 at Mr. Cartoon’s LA tattoo shop, it’s likely that the t-shirt was a paid placement.

October 21, 2008

x06_all_alanwake_ss_01 Microsoft Releases Alan Wake Trailer, Expect Flashlights And Guns
The upcoming Xbox 360 console exclusive (also available on PC), Alan Wake, has a new trailer. It’s basically the cinematic equivalent of the press release. The main character, Alan Wake, moves to a sleepy northwestern town in order to run away from a problem…blah, blah, and blam! Get your gun. To quote the release, “Alan Wake is a mission-based with a deeply engaging and suspenseful story line unveiling new twists and profound character revelations at every turn. Players will unravel the riveting plot through multilayered character interactions, unique problem-solving and intense combat against terrifying enemies. In this nightmarish world, Alan Wake must use a variety of weapons to survive, including his most powerful ally against the creatures of darkness — light itself.” It’s basically starting to sound a lot like Northern Exposure crossed with Gremlins. Bright light bitches! Hit the jump for the trailer.

LittleBigPlanet Gets Kakuto Chojin-ed

October 17, 2008

Media Molecule and Sony discovered an 11th-hour misstep lurking in the background of LittleBigPlanet. Turns out that one of the licensed songs in the game’s soundtrack contains a lyric that uses passages from the Qu’ran. In an effort to run damage control, Sony are re-pressing all the discs, recalling all the outbound product and pushing the release date back to October 27th. The blunder is reminiscent of the ordeal that Microsoft went through in 2003 when it was discovered that the fighting game, Kakuto Chojin: Back Alley Brutal (Sackboy’s noggin is mounted on Kakuto’s coverboy Asad), used verses from the Qu’ran in one of its tracks. Only the Xbox title actually made it to shelves.

October 09, 2008

tokyo_games_show Land Of The Rising Fail: Few Surprises Coming Out Of Tokyo Game Show
Today kicked off the Tokyo Game Show 2008 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. It was an early rise this morning (6am…shudder) to make the trek from Shibuya to Chiba, since it takes about 70 minutes to make it to the convention center. In years past TGS held many surprises, major announcements, and loads of game debuts. However, so far this year seems completely different. Dare I say, could TGS 2008 be a major let down this year? October 07, 2008

rock_troll_fable2 Microsoft Reveals Their Tokyo Game Show Slate Of Titles
Microsoft has opened up the kimono on their list of games showing at the Tokyo Game Show which kicks off this Thursday in Chiba City. The list includes the standard roster of sequels like Fable 2 (above), Fallout 3, and Saints Row 2. With Microsoft making some moves on Sony’s home turf, and the fact that the show is in Japan, it makes sense for the green box to include some playable debuts of titles like Star Ocean 4 The Last Hope, Last Remnant, and Ninja Blade.

Halo Wars Gets Some Box Art

August 25, 2008

halowarsboxart_crop Halo Wars Gets Some Box Art
The RTS expansion to the Halo universe, Halo Wars, got some official box art with not one, not two, but three Spartan Master Chief-types out for a stroll. I got some brief hands on time with the title in the Microsoft booth at E3 and I was not impressed. Microsoft is hyping their control stick scheme as the first real solution to getting RTS games done right on consoles. I don’t think they’ve pulled it off. Read the rest of this entry »
