New This Week: Games Where Your Money Used To Be

b-boy_2 New This Week: Games Where Your Money Used To Be
B-Boy
PS2, PSP
On sale: Aug 5
SouthPeak Games rolls out their breakdancing title B-Boy this Tuesday. The developers worked with Richard “Crazy Legs” Colón of the Rock Steady Crew to keep things authentically b-boyish. It’s kind of a dicey week in terms of game releases when you lead off with a PS2 title. But B-Boy is original IP and the first rhythm-based game to come out in the last three years that doesn’t plant a toy instrument next to your couch. Plus, if the PS2 is still good enough for Amanda Beard, it’s good enough for you.

Soul Calibur IV
PS3, Xbox 360
On sale: July 29
Swords, heaving cleavage and Jedi masters hit shelves this week. The boys at LucasArts have already admitted that Yoda, Darth and Lil’ Dark Apprentice has nothing to do with anything going on in The Force Unleashed. It still gives you a chance to pull a lightsaber on Voldo’s creepy ass. www.namcobandaigames.com

space-invaders-extreme New This Week: Games Worth The Cash, Or At Least A Rental
This week we’ve got the all-handheld edition.

Space Invaders Extreme
PSP, DS
On sale: June 17
Space Invaders hit the coin-op scene back in 1978 with monotone graphics and three space yeti’s throwing and overhand left on the cabinet art. Since then a few things have changed. For the 30th anniversary edition Taito/Square Enix have changed up the graphics, thrown in power-ups, mini games and, of course taken out the need for quarters. Hopefully they threw in a few Invader easter eggs. www.square-enix.com

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
PS3
On sale: June 12
Solid Snake is back for the last time. Might be a good thing seeing as he probably gets up three times a night just to take a leak. Dude is getting so old he’s got three part retrospectives! Bloggers have expounded on cut scenes longer than Ben-Hur and epic-sized install sizes for the game which is more of an indication that there’s nothing really to write about. Put on your rubber suit and grow a grey mullet n’ ’stache combo. Stay tuned for chest-thumping from Sony and a response to Aaron Greenberg’s shot across the PlayStation’s bow. www.konami.jp

We heard some open-world, crime-centered game is coming out tonight at midnight. Apparently it’s a sequel and has a history of controversial content and causes general eyebrow raising among the nation’s lawmakers and policy types. It might be worth a look. www.rockstargames.com

Chuck D calls the play-by-play action in the latest installment of Ballers. Play one-on-one or two-on-two matches that, when combined with the level of bling, resemble a cross between the Harlem Globetrotters and Pimp My Ride. nbaballers.com
