THQ set up shop in a $25,000-a-night Fantasy Suite at The Palms Casino in Las Vegas to debut their first offering in the five-year exclusive video game licensing deal with UFC. The new PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game, UFC Undisputed 2009, which ships in spring 2009, was shown to a packed house of video game, MMA and mainstream sports reporters. On hand for the festivities was UFC president Dana White, light heavyweight champion Quinton Rampage Jackson and his opponent in this weekend’s fight in Las Vegas, challenger Forrest Griffin.

“I’m not a big video game player,” said White. “I’m old school. I played games like Pac-Man. But we’re really excited about this game because everyone knows the first one really sucked. That was a deal that we were locked into when we bought the company. With THQ, we’re building the best fighting game ever created. We want our fans to enjoy this game and forget that the first one ever existed.” Read the rest of this entry »

saintsrow2 Wait, Saints Row 2 Has A...Storyline?

But, judging by the trailer of cut scenes after the jump, gamers will get their share of dark, sarcastic semi-drama as well as a healthy dose of facial tattoos, stripper poles and samurai swords. Today the UFC and THQ officially announced their new title, UFC 2009 Undisputed, even though the game was technically announced at last year’s E3. The new title will feature more than 80 fighters pulling from the UFC’s five weight classes and an as-yet unnamed game engine developed specifically for next-gen fighting games. The game will also allow you to create your own fighter and work your way through Career Mode. Seeing as they’re tacking on a date in the name, it makes us wonder if they’re going to go after the Madden model and rolling out a new title every year. Sharpen up your elbows and practice saying the word “gogoplata,” the game will hit shelves in spring 2009. Check out the original trailer after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

April 29, 2008

Gary Busey
THQ just pumped out a few more trailers featuring pitchman and ticking timebomb of humanity, Gary Busey. It’s clear that the minds behind Saints Row 2 are going for it, both in terms of the over the top content of the game and its promotion. To get a little more insight into the game we caught up with Volition’s lead designer on the game, Scott Phillips, to talk about their upcoming title. Read the rest of this entry »
