Codemasters has released the debut trailer for Damnation, the new third person shooter / platformer by developer Blue Omega. Gamers play as Hamilton Rourke a resistance fighter and veteran of “the Great War,” a decades long West versus East kind of thing.

The game started out as a mod in the Make Something Unreal competition, transitioned into a movie script by Michael Urbanski at Blue Omega, and then made it’s way back into development as a feature build. I saw a build at E3 which looks like it has some interesting elements but gave the impression that it needs a lot of work to make its holiday 2008 release date. Check the trailer after the jump for a look at dark armies wearing bowler hats, train track mounted cannons, wraiths with cavalry swords and some serious vertical combat. A handful of games feature altitude as a prominent gameplay fixture. It kind of makes us wonder, is massive vert the new shotgun? We’re stealing the phrase from Morgan Gray, Capcom’s producer on Dark Void. He threw the line out during our demo on the upcoming third person action/massive platformer in reference to a blind fire from cover feature in his upcoming title. But, considering that sheer height plays such a role in Void, we figured he wouldn’t mind if we borrowed it to describe the new trend getting high. Hit the jump to see the full list.
