Saints Row 2 And Gary Busey, It Just Makes Sense

THQ just pumped out a few more trailers featuring pitchman and ticking timebomb of humanity, Gary Busey. It’s clear that the minds behind Saints Row 2 are going for it, both in terms of the over the top content of the game and its promotion. To get a little more insight into the game we caught up with Volition’s lead designer on the game, Scott Phillips, to talk about their upcoming title.
Saints Row 2 will feature new levels of customization when it comes to character design as well as the ability to pimp out your in-game crib. But the real advancements come in the form of wreaking total havoc. “We listened to feedback from gamers and we’ve introduced a new gameplay mechanic that allows virtual drive-bys to be possible for the first time in a game,” said Phillips. “Cruise control makes driving and shooting out the side window easier. You can set the speed of the vehicle and then adjust the speed faster or slower on-the-fly with the gas pedal. Now drive-bys are fun to do. We’ve added a whole activity around doing drive-bys on rival gang members.”
It’s great to know that the gaming public voiced their needs to re-enact gang murder tactics and Volition was there to listen. If you’re worried your bloodlust won’t get sated Phillips promises more brutality, “Combat was cited as one of the strengths of the original game. That over-the-top craziness has been upped a notch with the introduction of human shields, which can be used to absorb bullets and then discarded like yesterday’s trash.” You can also kill your foes with a defibrillator.
You’ve got more to worry about than rival gangs in the sequel. “The police are more dangerous in this sequel,” said Phillips. “They have pepper spray and stun guns, which they use first and ask questions later. In addition, they have shotguns and other standard weapons.” Check the video below featuring Uncle Gary to get a look at what to expect from the Stillwater PD.
